Sequestrum Removal Surgery A Sequestrum is a piece of dead bone. The bone has lost its blood supply and become infected. It separates from surrounding bone and becomes a foreign body. Surgical removal of the bone fragments is necessary. This is not an uncommon occurrence and is often associated with a trauma, like being kicked. Images in this series show the initial detection of a sequestrum. Images 2-5 were taken during surgery. They show the progress of the sequestrum removal by Dr. Hartman. |
